I don't contact Dr's unless absolutely necessary, so was pleasantly surprised by this (to me) new scheme. Was able to speak to someone on the phone first thing in the morning and get a same-day appointment (unheard of in past years!). Staff on reception and the nurse-practitioner in the consulting room efficient, pleasant, helpful. A week later, it was also very helpful to have phone-advice from Doctor about the prescription given. Thankyou.

Anything that increases appointment flexibility has to be a good thing

I telephoned for an emergency appointment and was delighted to be given a time for later that morning by the very friendly lady who answered. On arriving at the surgery I was dealt with by the equally friendly receptionist (the same lady?) and was called in only a minute or two after sitting down. My only minor criticism of the service was that I felt more like a 'number' than a person, but this may a fault of that particular doctor rather than a fault of the service as a whole. He performed some routine examinations but did not perform others that I would have thought were relevant to my concerns and did not seem at all bothered about how I, as a person, felt. It definitely felt more like a business meeting rather than a personal consultation. Nevertheless, I did come away feeling fairly reassured that I was going to live! Overall, a very useful additional service.

The nurse listened carefully and is doing all she can to help me. I'm very pleased with the outcome of this appointment. I had the appointment on Saturday, which is so helpful because I work during the week.

I attended the MIAMI Clinic following an accident which resulted in a small, but deep cut to my hand. The receptionist at The Strand Surgery was very helpful as all of the Practice Nurses were fully booked when I telephoned first thing in the morning, therefore arranged for me to attend the MIAMI clinic late afternoon. I was happy to do as I did not feel that I should be taking up valuable time at A & E with a small cut and understood that the clinic was to take pressure off A & E and GPs. The MIAMI Clinic receptionist was very friendly and helpful. The Dr that I saw was also very friendly, he inspected my hand and told me that as the cut was so deep it required suturing. He was very willing the suture the wound himself but could not find a suturing kit!! He made enquiries and was told that the MIAMI Clinic was UNABLE to suture wounds due to insurance!!! I therefore had to attend A& E after all but due to the time taken from when I cut my hand to seeing a practitioner who COULD suture it, the wound was no longer 'raw' and I had to have it scrapped out and any dead/healing tissue removed to take the wound back to the state that it would have been immediately after I injured myself. He then sutured my wound, cleaned it up and dressed it The A & E doctor was not impressed that the MIAMI clinic could not suture a small wound and informed me that it has taken him three times as long to treat me due to the delay. I was told to book an appointed with my local practice a week later to have them removed and said (assuming that I would be going to the MIAMI Clinic for this), that if the Clinic could not removed the sutures then it should be shut down!! It is very unfortunate that policy prevents GPs from suturing small wounds as I wasted the Clinic Doctor's, the A& E staff and my time. Perhaps this policy should be reassessed as treatment as above would take a lot of pressure off A & E. I can not fault the staff at all but I can not understand why the Minor Illnesses and Minor INJURIES Clinic can not perform this treatment. Minor Injuries is therefore totally misleading. If such treatment was available I think the Clinic could be a success. Such a shame......
